Starting with Maruti Suzuki, the brand has captured almost all the top slots with its age old popular offerings. Among these, Alto and Wagon R continue to reign at the same positions of 1st and 4th respectively. The former has faced a loss of -0.4% of sales while the latter has gained a 5% growth. Moving on, Swift and Dzire have interchanged their places with a decline of 3% and a progress of 4% sales respectively. However, Celerio has seen the maximum growth amongst the lot with 28% increase in sales thereby jumping to the 7th position this year.
In the last fiscal, the 5th, 6th and 7th position were filled by Hyundai, whereas this year the company has made it to the 5th, 6th and 9th spots. Although Eon has slipped down 3 ranks with a 13% decline in sales, but Hyundai has still gained maximum with its Elite i20 registering an enormous growth of 62%. In addition to this, Grand i10 remains to rule at No. 5, but it has also gone up from 99088 units sold in 2015 to 126181 units for this year.
If we talk about Honda, both City and Amaze are ruling at the same positions of No.8 and No.10. The sales for the former has gone through a subtle rise of 0.2% with the number of units sold increasing from 77384 in the last year to 77548 units this year. Meanwhile, the latter has witnessed a fall of 18% in the figures, thereby going down from 66703 units last year to 54594 this year.
Apparently, the hatchbacks have emerged as the most preferred choice of customers with Maruti Suzuki topping the charts, primarily owing to the pricing strategy. However, the importance of sedan category comprising Dzire, City and Amaze can’t be denied either. Even though there hasn’t been any major alteration this year, the next fiscal year reports are surely going to be affected by the recent launches as well as the upcoming cars in India.
Looking at the trends, Eon and Amaze could be replaced by other cars in the next year’s report. But one thing is sure that Maruti will still go on to reign the market, especially with its newly launched Baleno which is loaded with so many advanced features inside and out.
So, this was the comparative analysis of the top 10 best selling cars in India for 2016 fiscal year dominated by the hatchback segment along with a couple of sedans. The highlighting fact is that Elite i20 got the maximum share of growth in its sales, while Honda Amaze bearing the maximum loss of 18% in the sales.
