Soft, spicy and steamed Momos, is anybody there, who cannot like them? Whenever I hear the name of the Momos, immediately my mouth starts to drool as it’s one of my favorite fast foods that I always ready to eat at any time. It’s a steamed savory dumpling, a popular one in Tibetan and Nepali cuisine, but gradually the hot Momos became famous street food in North India too and acquires a special place in many Indian hearts.

This tastiest snack can also be prepared at home in an easy way, however, it takes time for about 1.5 to 2 hours. And, the chutney that is served with it very spicy and is packed with flavor that makes Momos more tasty. So, for the Momos lovers, we are here, to provide you the recipe for both, Momos and its spicy Chutney. Try the recipe at home, you will surely love them.

Veg Momos Recipe along with its spicy Chutney:

Ingredients for the filling of Momos

FillingofMomos

  • ½ cup of cabbage (finely chopped)
  • ½ cup of carrots (finely chopped)
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • An inch piece of ginger (finely grated)
  • Salt according to taste
  • 1 tsp of oil

Ingredients for the dumpling (Momo) skin

  • 2 cups of Maida flour
  • Water for kneading the dough

Ingredients for the Chutney

  • 20 to 25 dry or fresh red chilies
  • 1 tbsp red chili flakes
  • 1 green chilies (finely chopped)
  • 2 large cloves of garlic (finely chopped)
  • ½ tsp ginger paste
  • 1 medium tomato
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp of oil
  • Salt and pepper according to taste
  • A few leaves of coriander

Directions for preparing vegetarian Momos

  • Add Maida flour into the large bowl and add a little water slowly.
  • Now, knead the flour to make a smooth dough.
  • Cover the dough properly, making sure to press out all air and let it keep aside for at least 10 minutes.
  • In between, prepare the filling for the Momos.
  • Heat the oil in a wok (Kadhai) and add finely chopped onion. Saute for sometime.
  • Now, add remaining veggies and stir well in high flame.
  • Add salt and saute it well. Switch off the flame, filling is ready.
  • Now, take a dough and make very small sized balls of even size.
  • Press the balls through rolling pins in small sized circles.
  • Place a small spoon of filling in the center of the flatted dough and now, to make a half moon shaped Momos, bring the edges of it and join them together.
  • You can make different shape of your choice.
  • While shaping to the Momos, you need to place them on a greased platter and cover them with the wet cloth to prevent them from drying out.
  • Boil the water in a steamer and spread the steamer pan with some oil to prevent the Momos from sticking.
  • Keep the Momos on the steamer pan and stem them on high for 5 to 7 minutes.
  • After a few minutes, you will notice that the skin of Momos are shining.
  • It is the indication that they are ready, remove them from the steamer pan and place them on the dish.

Directions for preparing Chili Garlic Chutney

  • If you are using dried chilies, then immerse them into a hot water for a few hours, until they become soft.
  • In case, you have fresh red chilies, then skip the above step.
  • Drain them and keep aside.
  • Now, blend them with the remaining ingredients into a semi-smooth paste.
  • Check the flavor of it and serve it with hot Momos.
