Recently the Indian subsidiary arm of the Yamaha Motor is finally going to launch the new bike in the “MT” series of street-fighter motorcycle, the ‘M-Slaz’ in the market. Its competitor, which was introduced a few years ago, called KTM Duke 200. The M-Slaz has managed to create a buzz for itself in the Indian market. The Indian market will welcome the updated Yamaha M-Slaz in terms of design, shape, front light and the addition of new safety features. Both of rivals carry an approx same price range, therefore you can feel some chemical ups and down in your head, which one to choose from both. Design And Style
The overall style of the Yamaha M-Slaz seems to be inspired from some of the bigger naked Yamaha brothers that includes MT-25, MT-07 and MT-09. The Backhand swing arm design of the motorcycle looks largely identical to the R15 as it is underpinned by the same deltabox frame as the latter. This bike is one of the most famed motorcycles in its category. The motorcycle comes with new design and attractive graphics. It has an aggressive stance, sharp line and striking details round off the exterior of the M-Slaz. It gets a muscular fuel tank that has a 10.2 litre fuel capacity.
On the other hand, Duke 200 comes with attractive head turner design, excellent features, dynamic performance and good pricing. It’s sharp and edgy lines that offer sumptuous look to the motorcycle. It is also featured with a sculpted fuel tank with 10.5 litres fuel capacity, split seats, pretty tail section, underbelly exhaust and exposed trellis frame. The Yamaha M-Slaz offers a superb handling power as it is featured with taller handlebars. Its kerb weight is 135 KG that a rider can control the motorcycle on a high speed easily. It uses 110/70-17 M/C 54S tyre at front side and 130/70-17 M/C 62S tyre for abundant grip on wet or dry road conditions.

The motorcycle offers a dynamic performance as it touches the highest speed figure of 100 KM/Hour in just 9.2 seconds. Its DOHC motor provides a powerful performance of the bike. The bike comes with 110/70-17 inch at the front side and 150/60-17 inch at the rear end with tubeless tyre that give better grip on the road.
Instrument Console
The Yamaha M-Slaz is loaded with a digital LCD instrument cluster that carries information about trip meter, odometer, speedometer, fuel gauge and LED DRL, LED tail lamp and LED headlamps etc. The large digital tachometer has been placed on center stage of the motorcycle .
While the KTM Duke 200 is featured with a fully digital instrument panel that houses of information of fuel gauge, speedometer, tachometer, turn indicators, trip meter etc. The switchgear has been borrowed from the Bajaj auto company.
Power and Performance
Mechanically, both the motorcycles have so much potential. The powering of the Yamaha M-Slaz comes from 150cc a liquid-cooled, 4 Stroke, SOHC, single-cylinder engine. The fuel-injection motor is able to produce a maximum power of 16.32 BHP at 8,500 RPM and a peak of torque of 14.30 Nm at 7,500 RPM. The six speed gearbox transmission helps to transfer power to the rear wheel. The top speed is 130 KMPH on the highway as claimed by the company.
On the other end, the KTM Duke 200 is powered by 199.5cc single cylinder, 4-Stroke, liquid-cooled, Spark-Ignition engine that churns out a maximum power of 22 BHP at 10,000 RPM and a maximum torque of 19.2 Nm at 8,000 RPM. The power transfers to the rear wheels through a six speed transmission. In the Duke, company says that the bike can runs at the top speed of 135 KMPH on the road.
Safety Features
Both the motorcycles are loaded with lots of safety features including brakes, suspensions, headlights and rear section lights. The braking duties of the Yamaha M-Slaz are managed by the 267mm hydraulic single Disc brake at front side and 220mm Hydraulic Disc brake at rear. The motorcycle offers a dynamic balancing power as it is featured with 37mm inverted telescopic forks at front side and mono-shock equipped multi link rear suspensions. The twin LED headlamps offer a clear visibility on the road during night ride and LED tail light uses to give attention to followers. A special feature (MT Ignition Switch) is added like as Yamaha MT-09 and MT-07.
On the other hand, the KTM Duke comes with the front 280mm disc brakes along with four pot brake caliper. The rear disc brake is 230mm along with one-pot brake caliper and floating brake. Both brakes’ functionalities are responsible to manage braking duties at the high speed and off road driving. The suspensions duty is performed by the high quality WP Telescopic upside-down forks at front side and WP monoshock suspension at the rear side on this motorcycle. The diamond shape headlight gives a better visible light on the road during a night ride.
Price, Colors and Mileage
The Yamaha M-Slaz will hit the Indian auto market at an approx price INR 1.10 lakhs (Ex-showroom, Delhi). The bike will make its debut with four paint schemes as Silver Green, Matte Black, Blue White and Red Black. The company claims that M-Slaz returns the mileage of 45 KMPL on the road.
Whereas, the KTM Duke is being sold with a price tag of INR 1.43 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi). The motorcycle is available in three shades that includes Orange, White and Black. The motorcycle offers a claimed mileage of 35 KMPL.
