Satiate Your Appetite by Munching Moreish Khaman Dhokla
Today, we are bringing a recipe of an instant snack, which is loved by almost all people. Yes, we are talking about one of the most popular dishes of the Gujarat-Khaman Dhokla, a light spongy and fluffy like a savoury cake. In Indian dishes, we have many options for the healthier and nutritious snacks that are oil free. Dhokla is one such yummy snacks and delicious too. Many of you cannot resist a bite of a yellow spongy beautiful garnished Dhokla piece. 🙂
Now, most of you don’t know that it can prepare at home in a very easy way, having a few ingredients that are used to cook it. However, who don’t know how to prepare it, keep your concentration here as we are sharing the recipe of this fluffy cake, so that you can relish it in your next breakfast with your family members.
Learn how to make Khaman Dhokla in the following steps:
Ingredients for batter
- 1 cup of gram flour (Besan)
- 1.5 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp Eno
- 1 tsp green-chili and ginger paste
- 3/4 cup of water
- 1/4 cup of curd (Dahi)
- 1 tsp oil (for greasing)
- Salt according to taste
Ingredients for tempering (Tadka)
- 2 tbsp oil
- 10-15 curry leaves
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds (Rai)
- 1 tsp sesame seeds (Til)
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 4 chopped lengthwise green chilies
- 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
- 2 tbsp crushed fresh coconut
- 1 pinch asafoetida (Hing)
Steps for preparing the batter and Khaman Dhokla
- Take gram flour, lemon juice, green-chili and ginger paste, curd, water and salt in a bowl.
- Blend all the ingredients properly to make batter smooth and make sure that there are no lumps.
- Now, add Eno and stir frequently in one direction for about 1 minute.
- After that, greased the plates of the steamer using oil and pour the batter into each plate up to 1/2 inch thickness.
- Now, place the plates into the steamer and steam for 10-15 minutes over medium flame.
- Then, using knife or toothpick, check out the Dhokla, if it comes out clean or not. If it does, then it’s ready otherwise cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Finally, take out the plates from the steamer and cool them for a few minutes. Cut the Dhokla in into small shaped squares using a knife.
Steps for preparing tempering (Tadka)
- Heat an oil in a small wok (kadahi) or a pan. Add mustard seeds and asafoetida in the oil. When the seeds start to crackle, add sesame seeds, curry leaves and green chilies. Fried them quickly.
- Now, add a little water and sugar and cook it for a minute over a high flame, until it boil.
- Tempering is ready and now pour it over the Dhoklas.
- And, finally garnish with chopped coriander leaves and crushed coconut and serve with green coriander chutney.
