Happy Eid Milad-un-Nabi 2014
A few days back was Happy New Year and we have entered into 2014 where in coming months we are going to celebrate many festivals in which on 14th January Makar Sakranti is coming and on the same day is Birthday of Muhammad. Many Muslims on this day will celebrate Milad un-Nabi, a festival which is about the commemoration of Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.
Milad un-Nabhi is also called as Nabi Day and it is a gazetted holiday in India. On this day there are social gatherings, remembering and discussion about His teachings. Sunni Muslims observe this day on the 12th of the Islamic month of Rabi’ al-awwal while on the other hand Shia Community observe this day on the 17th of Rabi’ al-awwal.
On this day there are many activities done including night long prayer meetings, sandal rites, festival banners hung on mosques, houses and on other buildings. It also includes marches and parades in streets, communal meals and other functions. Besides that stories are said and pomes are recited.
On this event people wear green ribbons including some items of clothings and also carry green flags marching. The green color has symbolic and special meaning in the Islam that specifies and represents Islam and Paradise.
