Tomorrow Guru Nanak Jaynti will be celebrated on the birth of Guru Nanak by the Shiks and followers of Guru Nanak. It is the most auspicious day of Sikhs and those who follow the path of Guru Nanak.
It is also said as Gurupurab that usually comes on Kartik Poornima, this time Nanak Jayanti is on 17 November 2013. Guru Nanak was the first Sikh Guru and founder of Sikhism who taught the way of love. He was born in a village called Rai Bhoi di Talwandi as popularly known Nankana Sahib. It is said that from childhood Guru Nanak had deep interest in divinity and spirituality. Guru Nanak Jayanti is about his teaching and preaching that are said in the sacred Sikh scripture Guru Grant Sahib. It is the holy book of Sikh in which hymns are said by Sikh Gurus.
Guru Nanak Jayanti marks the anniversary festivities about lives of 10 Sikh Gurus who contributed towards Sikhism. On the day of Jayanti Gurudwaras are decorated in attractive ways reciting the Guru Granth Sahib and ‘Gatka’ team shows their sword skills and martial arts, which are the major seeing of the event.
Devotees sing hymns in the early morning including Asa-di-Var with poems and sermons in his praise too. A large community meal is also organized on the celebration of Jayanti in many Gurudwaras.
