“Sankata” is a Sanskrit word which means “Problem” and “Hara” is also a Sanskrit word which means “Killing or removing”, So Maha Sankatahara Chaturthi is a day to invoke Lord Ganesha. This fast is very auspicious for converting all problems into opportunities. On this occasion, people fast throughout the day and break it after sighting the Moon.
Maha Sankatahara Chaturthi comes on each “Krishna Paksha Chaturthi” day of Hindi lunar month means fourth day of waning moon period. If this virtuous day falls on Tuesday then it is called “Angarika Chaturthi” and considered more auspicious.
